I am a lifelong New York Knicks fan, and I have stated many times on SportSmasher.com that former New York Knicks enforcer Charles Oakley is my favorite Knicks player of all-time, so I am very saddened to hear the team had Oakley arrested at tonight’s game against the Clippers after he got into an argument with owner James Dolan. Here is what I know right now:
UPDATE: Initial reports are that Oakley got into an arguement with James Dolan, and was yelling “The boss don’t like me”, but some reports say the arguement was near Dolan and not with Dolan. In video of the incident, Oakley can be seen arguing with and then shoving MSG security before being dragged into the tunnel and arrested by the NYPD.
UPDATE: According to reports, Oakley went after James Dolan and was screaming at him, then as Phil Jackson was trying to calm Oakley down, Oakley was surrounded by secuirity. Oakley slapped one member of security, then shoved another to the ground, before the 11 security guards dragged Oakley into the tunnel where he was arrested by the NYPD.
UPDATE: Charles Oakley had been upset with the Knicks organization and James Dolan, because it is the Knicks 70th anniversary season which the team is celebrating by holding events for former players, and Oakley had not been invited to any events. Oakley yelled at Dolan, and after being asked to stop, he continued yelling in Dolan’s direction at which point he was surrounded by MSG security. Oakley slapped away the hand of a security guard, then shoved another security guard multiple times, before he was dragged into the tunnel and arrested by the NYPD. I love Charles Oakley, and he had every right to be pissed at hated Knicks owner James Dolan, but picking a fight with the Knicks owner in his building is not the right way to go about rectifying this situation. Charles Oakley is a badass, it is not a gimmick with him, he let Dolan have it and will unfortunately have to face the consequences which apparently include being banned for life from MSG. Charles Oakley definitely should have been included in the Knicks 70th anniversary celebrations along with other Knicks greats, his attitude set the tone for those great 1990’s Knicks teams, but it was that same attitude that got him in so much trouble tonight. As a Knicks fan, I kind of wish Oak got his hands on Dolan, and as an Oakley fan I hope that the Knicks will reconsider banning one of their all-time greats from Madison Square Garden.
